As a college student, it is incredibly easy to get caught up in the everyday hectic activities of life. Between core classes that fail to interest me and a busy schedule, it is common to let my creative drive get away from me. I have always been passionate about social media, graphic design, broadcast, and all things communication. Finding time to expand on skills related to those subjects can be challenging, especially when I am still several prerequisites away from taking actual college courses for them.
However, I have found so many small ways to pursue my passions in those areas, ways that keep me interested and driven daily. For example, I intentionally follow multiple Instagram and Twitter accounts of creative media agencies, marketing firms, and branding specialists (ex. @campfire.social, @imaginemediaconsulting, @latermedia, @hubspot, @internqueen, @welovebranding). These companies are doing the work I intend to make my career one day, and staying inspired is easy when my feed is filled with their work. In addition, many of these companies post internship opportunities, helpful tips, and creative content that keeps me up to date!
Another way I attempt to stay passionate about my goals is by reading. As someone who doesn't always enjoy long books, this can be a challenge for me. However, brief articles, PR releases, and even new stories on Twitter assist me in staying familiar with new and savvy social strategies. Lastly, when I am feeling distracted from my future goals or stuck in the rhythm of college, I journal to remind myself what I dream to do in my lifetime. There is nothing more rejuvenating for me than writing down my goals and dreams. It is the perfect way to refresh my mindset and motivate me!
